The Addams Family
THE ADDAMS FAMILY SYNOPSIS
CHARACTERS
Wednesday Addams
Wednesday is a smart and driven young girl who has the same dry wit and sensibility of her mother. Finds love with a “normal” boy (Lucas) and wants to introduce his family to hers. Experiences the youthful drama that comes with first love. Lucas can actually put a smile on her face. Child of woe is wane and delicate… sensitive and on the quiet side, she loves the picnics and outings to the underground caverns… a solemn child, prim in dress and, on the whole, pretty lost… secretive and imaginative, poetic, seems underprivileged and given to occasional tantrums
Gomez Addams
A man who takes great pride in his family and revels in all it means to be an “Addams.” He struggles with having to keep his daughter's secret from his wife, whom he adores more than death. Smart, comedic actor with tenor vocals. Husband to Morticia, if indeed they are married at all… a crafty schemer, but also a jolly man in his own way… though sometimes misguided… sentimental and often puckish – optimistic, he has full enthusiasm for his dreadful plots… is sometimes seen in a rather formal dressing gown.
Morticia Addams
The strength of the family. An easy comedic actress with a dry wit. Feels her husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out. A strong dancer/mover with alto/mezzo soprano vocals. The real head of the family… low-voiced, incisive and subtle, smiles are rare, contemptuous and original and with fierce family loyalty… even in disposition, muted, witty, sometimes deadly… given to low-keyed rhapsodies about her garden of deadly nightshade.
Uncle Fester
The androgynous family member. They are larger than life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. A vaudeville style comedian with tenor vocals. Uncle Fester is incorrigible and except for the good nature of the family and the ignorance of the police, would ordinarily be under lock and key… the eyes are pig-like and deeply embedded… likes to fish, but usually employs dynamite…keeps falcons on the roof which uses for hunting
Lucas Beineke
Fell in love with Wednesday Addams and plans to marry her. Experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family.. Lucas is (for the most part), a fairly normal person. He writes poetry and is apparently a romantic. He also has a crazy and dark side, proven during “Crazier Than You”. He also seems to believe in traditional things like getting his parents blessing before getting married.
Pugsley Addams
A charming, funny kid who loves being tortured by his sister. Wants to ensure he won’t lose his sister to her new boyfriend, so he takes matters into his own hands. An energetic and dedicated troublemaker, in other words the kid next door… genius in his own way, he makes toy guillotines and threatens to poison his sister.
Mal Beineke
Stuffy father of Lucas and exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice. At one time was a follower of The Grateful Dead but has lost that side of himself. Always looking out for his family.
Alice Beineke
Mother of Lucas, devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires. Quirky female who often speaks in rhyme. While at the Addams Family dinner party, she drinks a potion that causes her to let her hair down and speak her truth.
Lurch
A very tall character (any gender), the Addams butler who knows all. They speak in moans and groans without becoming a cartoon version of themself. Their movement is always very slow.
Grandmama
A feisty 102-year-old! Fun and quirky, but don’t mess with Grandma. Comedic actor with strong character vocals. This disrespectful old hag is the mother of Gomez… she willingly helps with the dishes, cheats at solitaire and is roughly dishonest… foolishly good-natured… fumbling, weak character… is easily fooled.
Ancestors
Spirits from the beyond who come to the aid of any Addams Family member when summoned.
